Since 2000, suddenlyLISTEN Music has created and presented concerts and other events that stretch the boundaries of performance and creation; and have encouraged both musicians and other artists to explore, and participate in improvisation. Founded and led by Norman Adams, suddenlyLISTEN works in four different areas: Production and presentation of two series of concert-collaborations of freely improvised music in Halifax, collaborating with prominent musicians such as Pauline Oliveros, Evan Parker and Gerry Hemingway, as well as dancers, theatre and video artists; Touring selected collaborations to other centres, such as the upcoming Western Canadian tour for the Lee Adams Donovan trio in March 2012; Developing creative projects, such as the ongoing Mr. O project involving media artists, dancers and theatre artists; and Workshop activities, anchored by the sL Improvisation workshop, that has been held bi-weekly since 2005. suddenlyLISTEN encourages a sense of adventure in our listeners.
